Lessons I Learned From Norah

Modest and unassuming
Norah was a quiet lady
Her words were few and she seldom
had to take them back
I admired her for this

Her eyesight was good
but she was color-blind
in her relations with colored peoples
a LESSON we all need

She had the wealth to stand among
the moneyed people in the crowd
but she made no difference between
the rich and the poor
The first respected her
and the latter loved her
This is the hardest LESSON of all

Then her health began to fail
Osteoporosis, arthritis, Alzheimer disease
She suffered many years
but never learned to complain
I marvelled how she suffered quietly
and I pray that I may learn well
this LESSON that she taught so courageously
